Money & Mindset Monday!

Ugh... Mondays 🙃 or maybe you don't even know what day it is anymore as you're on day 12 of your swing. Either way, thinking of Monday as a reset to start your new week off right can pay dividends (see what I did there? 😏) into making sure you're keeping in check to reach your goals. I also find it helps breakdown a long swing into smaller chunks of time so it doesn't seem so long and bleek.

For me, I'm trying to stick to a good workout regime and spend as little money as possible while I'm away at work. With food and accommodation provided and a pretty decent gym on site, I've got no excuse really!

I got up at 3.30am this morning and did a 25 minute yoga session in my room, which I'm trying to do every morning. That means getting early nights is essential if I've got any chance of getting up early for a little workout.

Monday evenings are always rammed in the gym so I actually have decided that Monday is rest day after work, which probably goes against what most fitness gurus and fitfluencers would say:- "Never miss a Monday!" bullshit. I did do a long hard (giggidy) legs session on my day off yesterday so I'm pretty achey today.

Having the evening to myself also gives me time to plan out how the rest of my week is looking in terms of working out and ticking off life admin to do lists.

I will be doing my proper money management day on Wednesday evenings as that is pay day for me so Mondays are more about getting into a good mindset to feel my best, like I'm working towards my goals and remembering why I'm putting myself through this daily hell.... Just kidding my jobs not so bad! But of course, without the proper care and rest your body needs, FIFO work can become a real drain.

My tips to start the weeks off right are:

1. Plan workouts for the week.
2. Set a small financial goal for the week (e.g. mine this week is to not buy any food outside of camp).
3. Prep any extra food that is outside of camp food that you like to have (or meal prep if you are not provided with food and accommodation).
4. Plan for any spending that you may need to do this week (this week I said I would order myself some prescription SafeStyle safety glasses when I get paid) so that on payday you already know what you need and can allocate your savings and remaining budget easily.

I find that being in a good routine in general just helps me stay on the ball at work and feel in a good headspace which really helps make the whole working away from home experience much easier to deal with. You don't want to get burnt out too quickly and lose sight of your financial goals and why you're sacrificing your lifestyle for a period of time to achieve them. I'll delve more into my take short term sacrifice for long term gain through FIFO work in future blog posts.

What sets you up for a good week?
